  • Within the Walls Garden Project 9 B651 Hitchin, England, SG4 8AF United Kingdom (map)

Are you a family and/or beginner gardener in Hertfordshire / Bedfordshire wanting to learn to grow your own food?

Join Laura from the Young Growers Club for this fun and interactive course to start you on your food growing journey.

As October is actually the start of the horticulture year it is a great time to learn about food growing and get your garden prepped ready to start. There's lots you can sow in the autumn including garlic, onions and broad beans as well as bare root fruit bushes and trees. In the course we'll cover the where to grow, what to grow and how to grow as well as specific topics like water conservation, companion planting and composting.

Laura has trained with the RHS and has a Permaculture Design Certificate so during the course you'll get lots of tips and advice for your own growing space with the aim of each participant coming away with a plan for their space.

Dates & times for the course are:

  • Sunday 4th October: 1:30pm - 3:30pm

  • Sunday 11th October: 1:30pm - 3:30pm

(I will stay around for an extra 30 minutes of each session, until 4pm, to allow for questions)

The course is £60 per adult and will include some seeds / bulbs to start you on your food growing journey (kids are included free with adult tickets).

Each participant will be encouraged to complete a pre-course questionnaire so Laura can tailor the sessions to ensure attendees come away with the confidence and skills they need to give food growing a try at home.

No gardening experience is required!

This course will be held at Within the Walls Garden Project in Whitwell. The course will be take place inside and outside so please dress accordingly.

Parents will be able to bring their kids along and children's activities will vary but may include colouring, crafting and of course, some digging and of course getting involved in what we are doing.
